Welcome!

Welcome to Other Words - a project celebrating NoMo* writers. Featuring interviews with authors and poets who identify as either childless or childfree (as well as those who lie somewhere in between or prefer not to label themselves), we hear about their work, inspiration and lives. The discussions also cover the representation of non-parents in literature, and how childless or childfree writers and readers can be better represented by the wider publishing world.

Many of the writers outline how publishing their work, and perhaps revealing their own personal story as part of this, positively impacted their identity and self-image as people without children - or even changed how others view them. These conversations build up a valuable archive of insights on non-mothers who are sharing their stories. A huge thank you to all the contributors who have generously taken part!

The Other Words project is delivered by the NoMo Book Club - a curated collection of publications focusing on childless and childfree themes. It seeks to promote the work of all authors who identify as a non-parent.

*NoMo is a term created by the childless advocate Jody Day in 2012 - it is used to describe anyone who identifies as a non-mother.
